Bell ringing record set at All Saints Church, Inverary

New  Bell Ringing Records set to mark the 86th Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee .

On Saturday 21st April 2012, Inveraray Bell Tower hosted a record breaking peal attempt on its heavy ring of 10 bells.   A band of ringers drawn from the Ancient Society of College Youths successfully rang a record peal of 10,060 changes of Stedman Caters in 7 hours and 13 minutes.  It was a specially commissioned composition which involved ten individuals ringing one bell each continuously for the full 7 hours and 13 minutes.

Although similar record peals have been rung before, usually in England, this was the first attempt in Scotland.  And one has never been rung on a set of ten bells as heavy as Inveraray, which are the second heaviest peal of 10 bells in the world with the heaviest bell weighing 2.112kg (apx. 2 tonnes).

Thanks to Cationa Beel for this piece.
