A Grand Bazzar


Christ Church, Lochgilphead – A History

It has been suggested that it is high time Christ Church had a new guide and history which could be available for visitors.  The last printed one was titled ‘The first 130 years’ and so is about 36 years out of date.  I have therefore started amassing the assorted Church books, leaflets, printed information, hand written notes – even young Master Lawrence’s RE homework! – with a view to collecting it all together into an interesting booklet.  I have also been consulting the Argyllshire Advertiser which is available on microfilm at Lochgilphead Library.  Sadly, the newspaper’s first issue was in 1887, some thirty years after the founding of Christ Church, but notices and news items about our Church appear fairly regularly. 

As you can see from the March edition of the Buzz the first couple of entries in the 1887 newspaper were preliminary announcements of the Church Bazaar.  Here follows the full text of the advert:
